Its easy to lose track of the kids we follow at the high school level after they graduate. But here are a few updates:
Maddie Wilkins
Grinnell’s all-time leader in three point shooting is now making the rainbows for Coe. The freshman missed a few games early in the season because of an injury but has been a great shooter off the bench. In 14 games this season, Wilkins is averaging 9.9 points a game and leads the Kohawks with 38 three pointers made — that ranks third in the entire Iowa Conference. Wilkins is shooting 44% from three point land which is also third in the conference. Coe is 9-9, 6-3 and tied with Luther for second place, 2 1/2 games behind Wartburg. I always felt Wilkins would have been a good recruit for Drake or UNI but her injury in the summer before her junior season at Grinnell might have scared off some recruits. She will only continue to put up great numbers at Coe.
Kyra Hungerford
The former Grinnell Tiger has seen some playing time with the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons, appearing in 13 games with about 6 minutes per game. Hungerford is 1-8 from three point land and only averaging 0.7 ppg. UMSL is 10-5 overall, 4-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, a NCAA Division II conference. The GLVC is divided into three divisions and Missouri-St. Louis is currently in a three way tie for first place in the Central. Hungerford is fighting for playing time
Sam Allen and Cade McKnight
Both players are not playing this season but are redshirting, Allen for Upper Iowa University and McKnight to Truman St.
This is just Grinnell High alumni, we’ll have more updates in the future from area schools. If you have updates on some of our alumni on how they are doing in college sports, e-mail me at kgrnsports@yahoo.com and we will share them here and on the air.
