Today, we take a look back at the spring sports seasons for our Tuesday Coaches Corners schools

BGM

Track and Field:  Injuries hurt the BGM boys team at the end of the season.  Senior Keegan James hurt his hamstring at the district track meet and prevented him a chance at a repeat performance of his 4 medal junior year.  James would line up at the state meet in the 100 meters but jogged up the track to officially finish in 23rd place.  Devon Maxfield would finish in 13th place in the 100 but failed to advance to the finals.  Without their key runners, the boys 4×100 finished 22nd place and the Sprint Medley relay was 23rd.  The girls would win BGM’s only 2 medals at state.  Marian Coover would take a 5th place medal in the 100 meter hurdles and Coover would anchor the shuttle hurdle relay team along with Rylie Van Ersvelde, Kayleigh Holland and Lyla Kriegel to a 5th place finish.  Also, Sophomore Rachel Hawkins finished 15th in the 800 and the Girls Distance Medley Relay finished 23rd.

Golf:  Kyle Doty led the boys with a 42.88 average but it was Mitchell White who earned all-conference honors, finishing in seventh place.  BGM Boys were 5th overall at the SICL meet.  For the girls, Kaylee Lint and Riley Hawkins were the scoring leaders as the girls also finished 5th at conference.

Iowa Valley

Track and Field:  Cherisse Ward finished a great track career with the Tigers, finishing 2nd in the long jump for the second year in a row.  Ward would set a new Iowa Valley school record, jumping 17’8″ at their school meet prior to districts; she would jump 17’5″ at state.  Ward also finished 13th in the 100, was part of the 4×200 relay that finished 21st and part of the 4×400 relay that finished 22nd.  On the boys side, Junior Joe Zuber would earn a 5th place medal in the 200 meters

Golf:  They say that every shot counts in golf.  For the Iowa Valley girls, it held true.  The Tigers won the state title on a tie-breaker — IV and New London tied at 740 so it went to the 5th player’s score on Day Two.  That was Kyra Alexander who scored a 104 beat New London’s 5th player who had a 110.  Senior Caleigh Smith earned a 4th place medal at the state tournament.  On the boys side, Iowa Valley won the SICL conference tournament giving the Tigers the conference sweep.  Junior Breven Platt was 2nd at conference, Junior Parker Wieck finished 5th, Sophomore Dominic Pedersen 9th, and Senior Gabe Ritter 11th.  Ritter would advance to the state tournament for Iowa Valley as an individual and finished T 16th.

English Valleys

Track and Field:  Junior Madison Trimpe would be the first Bear athlete in 25 years to qualify for the Drake Relays.  Trimpe would make it in the shot put and finished a respectable 13th place.  She had high hopes at the state tournament but finished only in 18th place with a throw of 105–09, well off her season best ot 121–09.  E-V would also send Junior Clayton Moore to the state tournament in the 400 hurdles, finishing in 20th place.

Golf:  Freshman Cole Stephenson earned all-conference honors for the Bears and would qualify for the districts after shooting 81 at sectionals.  The Bears would finish 6th as a team in the SICL meet.  For the girls, Senior Mallory Hester and Junior Maleah Ackerman earned all-conference honors.  Hester would finish 4th place in the first round of regionals and the Bears would make as a team to the regional finals.  English Valleys girls were runners up to Iowa Valley at conference.
